Grand Rapids, Mich - The Lucy Shair Foundation for Women in Finance (LSF) has been fortunate to connect with women across the financial advising industry learning their stories, passions, and drive to be agents of change. Cassandra Smalley is one of these women and will donate 50% of book sale profits from her new book “The Why of Wealth” to LSF in June.
“The Why of Wealth: Mastering the Steps to a Wealthy Mindset to Live a Joyful Life” shares inspiring stories and practical steps empowering women to take an active role and feel confident about finances. Topics range from career, motherhood, relationships, elder care, gender wealth gaps, longevity, life transitions, retirement needs, setting our kids up for success, creating a lasting legacy, and most importantly, building the joyful life you deserve. It’s a heartfelt message of the importance of communication, vulnerability, honesty, inclusion, and ensuring that women have a front-row seat at the financial table.

Financial confidence can be transformative and often built through conversations from a young age and meaningful relationships with a financial advisor. While most women will manage personal and family finances during their lives, less than a quarter of financial advisors are women, and it may be daunting for women to seek and form such financial relationships in a male-dominated field.
LSF is tackling this challenge, one grant at a time. With these grants, LSF is working to eliminate barriers for women entering or advancing in the financial advising industry and infuse capital to accelerate success.
Lucy Shair, 43, was a financial advisor who passed away in 2021 from breast cancer. As a mid-career changer who launched her own firm, Lucy built her advisory around encouraging female colleagues and building a base of savvy female investors empowered in their financial knowledge.
